Reimagining Prison

This report is the culmination of the Vera Institute of Justice’s Reimagining Prison Project, an 18-month initiative that brought together correctional officials, incarcerated people, policymakers, and the general public in order to envision a transformation of U.S. prisons and jails. The focus of the project was improving conditions of confinement, increasing transparency and oversight, and drawing lessons from international corrections models on how correctional facilities in the U.S. can implement the principle of respect for human dignity.
